Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, trailing 36 points Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to avoid just a slight brush of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, over half a second off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
